The "secret" about the Fancy Food Show is that despite all the gourmet pretenses, in a lot of ways it's not really that fancy at all. Amidst the random (but appreciated) smatterings of foie gras, expensive cheese, caviar, and pâté, you'll find tons of low- to mid-range goods that try to appeal to the lowest common denominator: cheap candy; fried and frozen foods; thing doctored with chemicals to approximate a bacon flavor; kids' snacks that are organic, gluten-free and supposedly "healthful"; and then cheap, bizarre stunts.
