Food critic Robb Walsh left The Houston Press back in March to pursue "a lot of projects I’ve always wanted to tackle, but never had the time for," and it seems one of those projects is becoming a restaurateur. Walsh will partner with Food and Wine's Best New Chef 2009 Bryan Caswell to open a restaurant in Houston's hip Montrose neighborhood, reports Sidedish Newsletter. The unnamed 300-seat restaurant will be inside the historic Art Deco Tower Theater building and is expected to open early next year.
No word on the menu beyond the Tex-Mex label, but Walsh has written several Beard-nominated cookbooks on Texan cuisine, and Caswell's previous restaurant, REEF, specialized in Gulf Coast seafood, so perhaps the menu will feature as-yet unharmed Texas coast shrimp and oysters. To celebrate, Walsh wishes he could "have you all over for cheese enchiladas topped with fried eggs this morning." We'll be right over.
