Have you heard? Your salad is trying to kill you. Romaine lettuce was recalled in 25 states east of the Mississippi yesterday due to the threat of E. Coli bacteria contamination. The recall includes romaine lettuce products sold by Freshway Foods for food service outlets, wholesale, and in-store retail salad bars and delis. So, basically everywhere?
And in a case of particularly bad timing, hitting the inbox today was a press release announcing that it's National Salad Month, because nothing shines "a spotlight on the health benefits of eating different kinds of leafy greens and colorful vegetables" than the fear of diarrheal illness and bloody stools.
