Mark Bittman Launches a "Slog"

Today cookbook author and New York Times writer Mark Bittman released his new website: markbittman.com, calling it an "active, dynamic, bloggy, constantly updated site," or a "slog," a combination of "salon" and "blog." Interesting because his New York Times blog, "Bitten," was recently shut down and merged into the Diner' Journal blog.

For his new website, he's bringing a lot of people on board, including former Gourmet food politics reporter Barry Estabrook, Civil Eats editor Paula Crossfield, and Not Eating Out in New York's Cathy Erway. Also! The specter of user-generated content looms, promising "a place to share and comment on recipes... a place to offer your own variations, pictures, videos."
