Last Friday, President Barack Obama took First Lady Michelle Obama out for dinner at the D.C. Greek/Mediterranean restaurant Komi. This was the couple's first "Friday Night Date Night" out since October, a long-standing tradition the two carried over from the days before the President took office.
The chef/owner of Komi, Johnny Monis, was recently nominated for a James Beard Award for Rising Star Chef this year (he lost to the French Laundry's Timothy Hollingsworth). No word yet on what the POTUS and the FLOTUS had to eat, but typically Komi serves a $125 several course set-menu that includes a series of mezzethakia to start, a pasta course, a shared entree, a cheese plate and dessert. The usual throngs of onlookers and secret service detail converged outside the restaurant while the first couple dined.
