The FDA Plans to Cut Salt in Processed Foods

To "prevent thousands of deaths from hypertension and heart disease," and taking a cue from Michael Bloomberg, the Food and Drug Administration is planning an "unprecedented" ten-year initiative to reduce salt found in processed foods, reports the Washington Post.

Based on interviews with unidentified FDA sources, the Post says that the "government intends to work with the food industry and health experts to reduce sodium gradually over a period of years to adjust the American palate to a less salty diet."
