Tom Douglas Planning Several New Projects Near Amazon HQ

New, 2 comments

We learn from our inbox today that Northwest mega-restauranteur Tom Douglas will be opening up a few new projects in the massive, historic Terry Avenue Building in the South Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle. The space is also being renovated to house new offices for HQ. While details on both the number of restaurants and style of cuisine are scant at this point, Douglas says of the new projects:

"Many of Seattle’s most cherished homegrown companies are calling South Lake Union home, and that’s an important part of keeping Seattle a world-class city. It’s an area full of exciting new opportunities for us that we couldn’t pass up...By opening our new restaurants in the Terry Avenue Building, we’re able to preserve a special part of Seattle’s history while also being in the center of all the action in South Lake Union.”

With an opening date slated for mid-2011, there's a lot of time left to speculate as to what Douglas has planned for the space — although we do know that it will be bi-level and have outdoor seating year round. The area near the Terry Avenue Building is flanked with Amazon offices, and plans are underway for a string of retail spaces nearby. So, it sounds like the Douglas restaurants will probably be the crown dining jewels of what will basically be a new business district centered around Amazon HQ. We'll keep you posted on any new details on the star chef's newest. [EaterWire]
