Travel Channel Launches Yet Another Food Competition Show

New, 2 comments

Last night, after weeks of hype, the Man V. Food Live! Super Bowl-themed special finally aired, and yes, as promised, host Adam Richman did indeed take to a 48 oz cut of beef in front of a live sea of admirers. If you missed last night's sloppy spectacle and still care about the outcome of the event, we won't mention the results till after the jump below. That being said, the most notable thing about last night's special was not the 20 minutes of live footage of Richman plowing through the gristle and fat, but rather the announcement during the commercial break of a brand new food competition show from the Travel Channel: Food Wars.

It's not secret that Man V. Food is the Travel Channel's highest rated show (even eclipsing No Reservations in the ratings dept.), so it make sense that they would create another show with an eating competition theme. We heard rumblings about this new show a few weeks ago, and now finally we have the full details.

The premise of Food Wars is simple: each week, the show will focus on two local restaurants that specialize in the same dish, and pit them together in a blind taste test to be judged by the locals. So, the competition is based on quality not quantity. But, if the teasers were any indication, the food that the show will focus on is very much in the Man V. Food/Triple D vein of greasy diner grub, pizza, and dinosaur sized portions of meat. The show is hosted by a Camille Ford, a former NYC new anchor, and Broadway vet, who is a newcomer to food T.V.

But enough about Food Wars. How'd Adam do in the Shula's challenge? He finished it, of course, with three minutes to spare and without even breaking a sweat.
