The Obamas have hosted many celebrity chefs at the White House over the past year or so. Marcus Samuelsson, Mario Batali, Emeril, Bobby Flay have all spent some time with the first family -- Alice Waters even secretly swapped gardening tips with the White House staff recently. While these are all fine, fine chefs in their own right, the Obama Administration has yet to allow a real, grade-A Kulinary Gantgsta past the White House gates. Until now. That's right, later next month Guy Fieri will drive his big red Chevrolet all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave to spend an evening cooking for the first family, in private event that sadly will not be televised or recorded.
The spikey one will be accompanied his by his 13-year-old son, Hunter, who will cook alongside his papa for the Obamas and the White House staffers. Naturally, the event will tie-in thematically with Michelle Obama's efforts to educate children about cooking and eating healthy foods. Says Mr. Fieri:
"My 13-year-old son, Hunter, is going to cook with me. He's done so before, on some of my 'Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives' Food Network show. I have strong feelings about educating children through the empowerment of cooking."As for the menu, Guy has already picked one of the signature dishes from his new cookbook: "It'll be a little Italian and something creative -- a BLT sandwich made with duck." After dinner, who knows what fun the Fieris will have with the Obamas? If the White House has a box of tissues, or some spare paper grocery bags lying around, maybe Guy can lead the First Family through some of the games from Minute To Win It.
