The Newest Member of the Jean-Georges Empire: The Mark

Krieger, 2/23/10

The sophisticated Upper East Side lady you see above is none other than the newest baby from four-star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, called The Mark. Jacques Grange designed the place, with emphasis on the natural light and high ceilings, and believe it or not, is supposed to be a downscale effort. Even though it looks swanky, The Mark features JGV's take on French comfort food (e.g., croque monsieur, even a burger!), though it's obviously a step (or five) up from your corner bistro. Eater NY has a plethora of further shots, including some of the striking wine room. The restaurant opens today in the Mark Hotel on East 77th Street.
