Last night on Iron Chef America, Edward Lee (610 Magnolia in Louisville, KY) challenged Iron Chef Jose Garces in Battle Tongue and Cheek. Once again, the Chairman was away — he was on "serious Iron Chef America business" — so host Alton Brown did his best impression (like he did back in September). Apparently Louisville is a stressful place! Lee admitted, in all seriousness, to waking up screaming and laughing every morning.
Edward Lee's strategy was to pair the "humble" and "misunderstood" tongue and cheek with ingredients of "equal modesty." Garces went global, employing different style of cuisine, course by course. The judges — PR expert Karine Bakhoum, fashion designer Mark Ecko (who incidentally designed the Iron Chefs jackets), and actress (and Mario Batali's traveling companion on the show Spain... on the Road Again) Claudia Bassols — preferred Lee's dishes and handed him the win by a score of 53-48.
