Gael Greene Unimpressed With New Gourmet Cookie Book

According to her Fork Play newsletter, food writer and "Christmas elf or embryonic Martha Stewart" Gael Greene is not impressed with the new Gourmet Cookie Book, which contains holiday cookie recipes from 1941 through the never-printed December 2009 issue, or perhaps just the motivations behind its publication.

Writes Greene, "The unsentimental bean-counters who murdered Gourmet magazine hope to exploit its hold on us by churning out cookbooks with the brand name." Maybe you want to buy it anyway, though? Despite "uninspired" photography that's "unworthy of the Gourmet food porn that fired our fantasies," Greene seems to think it's worth it if only for the nostalgia factor.
