As rumored, David Chang will be opening his first restaurant outside of New York halfway around the world at the $860 million Star City casino in Sydney, Australia. Why Australia? And not say, oh, Los Angeles? According to Chang, "There's something in Australia that Americans have never opened up at - Australians are very serious about their food, their coffee culture and their drinks." No word on the concept other than Chang's excitement to "share the Momofuku philosophy" with Australians.
Joining Chang at Star City will be Chase Kojima of the Nobu empire, Melbourne chef Teage Ezard, Australian chef Stefano Manfredi, and pastry chef Adriano Zumbo. The complex should be finished late next year.
