The Obama Bar & Grill in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan is named as such to evoke a sense of Americana to serve alongside its burgers and fries. The American-themed restaurant is also apparently plastered in images of the president in a variety of poses including photographs of him wearing a White Sox uniform and as a cartoon. Their efforts have not gone unnoticed: one American living in Bishkek said, "They're trying to make a Chili's in Bishkek and doing a really good job, even by American standards."
The White House apparently "has a longstanding policy of disapproving uses of the president’s name and likeness for commercial purposes." Nevertheless, it should be noted there is also an Obama Bar and Grill on Boracay in the Philippines. Yes we can (use the President's name and image to sell tourists American food)?
