Marc Vetri vs Michael Symon in Iron Chef Battle Veal

New, 1 comment

Last night chef Marc Vetri (Vetri Ristorante, Osteria in Philadelphia) visited Kitchen Stadium to do battle against Iron Chef Michael Symon. The secret ingredient was veal — an entire side of humanely-raised black angus veal that needed to be broken down — along with bonus offal including tongue, brain, and sweetbreads.

Judges Caleb Followill (of the band Kings Of Leon), restaurateur Donatella Arpaia, and Jennifer Baum (of the restaurant PR firm Bullfrog & Baum) preferred Vetri's dishes. Arpaia called his vitello tonnato the best she'd ever had "in Italy or anywhere else" — the judges were also fans of Vetri's seared veal on top of huge stones (which of course one just finds lying around Kitchen Stadium!). Despite Symon's best efforts (including braised veal and cherry ebelskivers), Vetri came away with the win; the final score was 51 to 47.
