Hey, there's a new dessert trend: doughnuts! Consumption of the old-fashioned breakfast treat was up 6% this year, with an estimated 1.8 billion sold. And unlike its rival, the now-ubiquitous cupcake, this is a food consumed mostly by men. It's also heavily East Coast-based, where the average person consumes nine doughnuts per year — 37% more than the rest of the country. Suck it, cupcakes! [Time]
