Some news comes through the wire today on Spike Mendelsohn's growing restaurant group. We heard back in October that in addition to opening new branches of his Good Stuff Eatery, everyone's favorite Fedora wearing Top Cheffer was opening a pizzeria in DC called "We The Pizza," originally slated for a December 2009 opening. Today, we get some new intel on the pizza spot from food writer Sam Fromartz, who spoke to Spike at a charity benefit over the weekend. From his twitter feed:
Chef Spike at Good Stuff Eatery told me his new place in #DC will do NYC pizza by slice, not brick oven neopolitan, opens 3/1
So, there you go. We the Pizza may indeed be opening on March 1st, and will sell pizza by the slice. What's more, Fromartz also drops some news on a previously unmentioned Spike project:
Spike also going to do sandwiches, next concept up, a Vietnamese place, he saidAt this time we don't know if Spike has plans to do sandwiches at We The Pizza, if he's planning a sandwich shop and a Vietnamese place, or if the new sandwich concept is the Vietnamese place. But, If the latter is true, then Spike might be taking a huge tip out of the Trends of 2009 playbook by opening both an artisanal pizza parlor and a banh mi joint.
