Remember how one of the "prizes" for the contestants on last season of Top Chef was the opportunity to compete for a spot on the Bocuse d'Or team? The spot in the semifinals was won by fan favorite Kevin Gillespie. Well, nevermind:
Andrew Friedman—the man who literally wrote the book on Bocuse d'Or USA—notices that Kevin's name has been surreptitiously removed from the semifinalist list and replaced with Jim Burke, executive chef/owner of James restaurant in Philadelphia. Though Kevin is indeed confirmed out of the semifinalists, there hasn't yet been a reason for his elimination, though Friedman points out that with all Kevin's Top Chef commitments (not to mention running his Atlanta restaurant), there's no way he could have properly prepared for the contest.
Update 1:30: Friedman gets the official word from Gillespie's spokeswoman: "He didn't have time to prepare, and didn't want to let the country down. He felt like there was somebody else who deserved that spot..." Click over for the full explanation.
