The eighty gabillion dollar CityCenter in Las Vegas has been rolling out gradually for most of December, but this week, the mega-development welcomes its crown jewel: the Aria Resort and Casino. To say that CityCenter imported A-list chefs and restaurateurs is an understatement: Jean-Georges, Sirio Maccioni, Masa Takayama, Shawn McClain, Michael Mina and Julian Serrano (FYI: Todd English opened a new restaurant in CityCenter too, but not at Aria). Expect much more coverage from Aria over the next few days and weeks, but for now, let's break down the important facts aforementioned stars' new restaurants.
Chef: Masa Takayama
CityCenter Restaurants: Bar Masa, Shaboo
Designer: Richard Bloch
Concept: "The casual Bar Masa, located beneath a dramatic vaulted ceiling, invites guests to sample modern Japanese food from an à la carte menu, while the more exclusive Shaboo, set in an intimate, reserved room, offers an omakase-style experience orchestrated anew each day by Chef Masa."
Chef: Julian Serrano
CityCenter Restaurant: Julian Serrano
Designer: Gente de Valor
Concept: "The first restaurant in the United States to be designed by famed Spanish design group Gente de Valor, Julian Serrano captures the convivial social energy of Spain’s tapas bars with inventive food."
Chef: Shawn McClain
CityCenter Restaurant: Sage
Designer: Jacques Garcia Decoration
Concept: "The restaurant’s spirited New American menu laced with strong Mediterranean subtexts showcases the chef’s culinary verve as it embraces the seasonal plentitude of neighboring California and the Pacific coast."
Restaurateur: Sirio Maccioni
CityCenter Restaurant: Sirio Ristorante
Designer: Adam Tihany
Concept: "Most dishes are faithfully traditional; others are Italian-American fusions born in the boroughs of New York City; and a few introduce the extravagance of more contemporary stars. "
Chef: Michael Mina
CityCenter Restaurant: American Fish
Concept: "Michael Mina’s fifth Las Vegas restaurant, American Fish, pays homage to rustic cooking methods from across the country – lobster boils, clam bakes and campfire cookouts – then applies them with modern finesse for a truly refined affair."
Chef: Jean-Georges Vongerichten
CityCenter Restaurant: Jean Georges Steakhouse,
Designer: Dupoux Design
Concept: "Jean-Georges Vongerichten pushes the boundaries of traditional steakhouse expectations with a decidedly fresh, contemporary reinterpretation. "
