Wine & Sleaze

red_wine.jpgToday on the evil oenophile beat, notorious California wine arsonist Marc. C. Anderson was finally found guilty of having torched his own wine cellar in 2005. At the time of the fire, the Vallejo warehouse contained 6 million bottles worth $250 million, from 92 wineries and 43 collectors. Anderson--who wrote a Marin County wine column under the name "Joe Sausalito"--lit the match to cover up years of embezzlement, but also succeeded in wiping out many vintner's entire stock (and livelihoods). The prosecutor says he will "celebrate the case's end with a good Cabernet," but we wouldn't be surprised if the ruined winemakers would rather see Anderson's liver on a platter, served with a nice Chianti.
