One of the biggest openings of the fall season descends upon Manhattan tonight with the arrival of Danny Meyer's Maialino. The Roman bar and trattoria marks Meyer's first high end restaurant opening since 2005 and joins the pantheon of his restaurants that already includes Gramercy Tavern, Union Square Cafe, Eleven Madison Park and the rest. Here at Maialino, David Rockwell is responsible for the (re)design; there's a 55-seat bar, a more formal 70-seat dining room, a salumi and pastry station in between, and a 22 seat pdr in the far rear.
