Yesterday, Gael Greene revealed that the second season of Top Chef Masters is set to start filming, and nary a day later, we have our first revealed contestant: Monica Pope of Houston's T'afia. She spilled the beans on, where else, Twitter:
Via @MonicaPope: "Houston, we have an announcement: i'm headed to LA next weekend to go on Top Chef Masters....how far do you think I'll go?"
She's since deleted the tweet (those Bravo overlords are very strict about spoilers), but the reactions and retweets are still available for perusal. As for Pope's resume, she has been nominated for a James Beard Award in the best regional chef category, was a Food & Wine Best New Chef in 1996, and thanks to her big local/sustainable philosophy, has been called "the Alice Waters of the Third Coast" but prefers the term "present-day intrepid Texas Culinary Pioneer." Also, she does funky things with her hair.
As always, the tipline awaits your spoilers for other master chefs headed to LA this weekend. Anonymity guaranteed.
