McDonald's isn't the only company entering the all-day breakfast arena. Peet's Coffee & Tea is quietly testing hot, all-day breakfast items at 17 stores in Chicago, reports the Tribune. The coffee chain says it plans to launch the offering in more markets by next year, eventually expanding to all 243 Peet's locations.
The menu, made by Buddy's Kitchen in Minneapolis, features seven options including bacon and cheddar breakfast sandwiches, kale goat cheese flatbreads, crustless vegetable quiche, and croissant bread pudding. Items will range from $4.25 to $4.65. The company hopes to boost sales and managers at the test sites are already seeing results. Like other companies, Peet's has shown interest in serving cage-free eggs, but doesn't have a "definitive timeline" says senior director of food Paul Rooprai.
After several months of testing in limited markets, McDonald's is finally launching all-day breakfast nationwide on October 6. Like Peet's, the company hopes to boost sales with the move, although not everyone is convinced it will save the struggling chain.
