Michelin to Announce Stars for Spain and Portugal This Week
Michelin, the French tire company that puts out elusive and exclusive dining guides each year, will release its 2016 guide to Spain and Portugal this upcoming Wednesday. Last year, all eight three-star restaurants — Arzak, Sant Pau, Akelare, Azurmendi, Martin Berasategui, Quiqui Dacosta, El Celler de Can Roca, and DiverXO — retained their stars. Will there be a new member of the three star club this year? Or one less? DiverXO, it should be noted, will be hosting fellow member of the three star club Chicago's Alinea, next year for an exclusive pop-up experience.
Elsewhere in Spain a group wants Michelin to consider noise levels in restaurants when rating each dining experience. Oír es Clave is an organization dedicated to improving the lives of those with hearing impairments. Their new campaign is called Comer sin ruido, or dine quietly. Svante Borjesson, the organization's director, says, "We would like famous food guides like the Michelin Guide to also take this criteria into consideration, so that one day acoustic comfort will be just as important in the evaluation of a restaurant and will appear in reviews."
