Acclaimed barman Jim Meehan — who left New York City last year for the fresh Portland air — is writing another book. Meehan tells Grubstreet that it will be called Meehan's Manual and that it will have a similar feel to restaurateur Danny Meyer's best seller Setting the Table. The book is also inspired by the classic Jerry Thomas' Bartenders Guide.
Don't expect only personal stories from Meehan however: "I'm going to incorporate dozens of people who've influenced me over my career, from bartenders to chefs to writers." He further confirms that there will be a chapters "about how you should serve." Basically, Meehan explains, he's thinking about how he wants his bartenders "to carry themselves."
His first book, the PDT Cocktail Book — which features recipes from his NYC cocktail den of the same name — is the "what we do and how we do it," explains Meehan. The upcoming book is the "why we do it." Meehan's Manual will be published by Ten Speed Press in the Fall of 2016.
