Ladies and gents, here's an exciting announcement: the inimitable writer, editor, and prolific tweeter Helen Rosner will soon join Eater as Features Editor. She joins the company from a four-year stint overseeing the digital side at Saveur and a recent 10-month sprint editing the magazine's upcoming cookbook. Starting next month, Helen will oversee an ambitious new longform and narrative journalism program, broadening the scope of what Eater covers and the depth with which we cover it.
Readers: do take a minute to follow her on Twitter and brace for her first stories to hit the site in the next few months.
Writers: Now's the time to put those pitches together. Have a big idea for a knockout profile, a wild food saga, a compelling investigative piece, an insane photo essay? We're looking for features that dig deep while also maintaining Eater's voice. (And yes, Eater is a paying market!)
How to pitch
There are a few things we like to learn from writers when considering a story:
· What the story is, why it's a fit for Eater, and the expected length
· How you plan to report it and who you've talked to so far
· Why you're the most qualified writer for the story
Please include a couple of clips or links that illustrate your experience. Ideas for photos, graphics, and other visual components for the story are also helpful as we consider your pitch. Send an email to features@eater.com.
If there was ever a time to think big, it's now.
