Today in weird Dutch design things: Two design/branding agencies in Amsterdam have joined forces to "break the taboo that surrounds eating alone in public" by opening a pop-up restaurant, Eenmaal, that only offers tables for solo diners. "Where you might usually go out to eat with company, at Eenmaal you are your own company," creator Marina van Goor says in a press release. "It is the perfect place to dine in pleasant solitude; an exciting experiment for those who never go out for dinner alone." The spot, which claims to be the world's first one-person restaurant, features an arrangement of single-occupancy black table-cubes paired with vintage chairs.
Eenmaal — which serves only one four-course vegetarian prix fixe menu — opened today in Amsterdam's Bos en Lommer district, and will last for just 48 hours. (Its name, after all, is a play on the Dutch phrase for "one meal" or "one time.")
