It seems that Jamie Oliver picked up a taste for American junk food while filming Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution in the US, because word comes from London that he's planning to open a hot dog shop. According to the Independent, which quotes "reports," Oliver's Dog House & Diner will serve "an 'on-trend menu of hot dogs, burgers and ribs.'" It's actually not that big of a change for the health-conscious chef, who already sells all kinds of sausages out of his Barbacoa butchery. But no matter: people are cranky about it anyway.
Over on Twitter, people called the new restaurant concept a "healthy eating U-turn" and asked "Will this just be another altar for meat-worshippers?" He also got some criticism for hopping on the trendy hot dog "bandwagon."
A spokesperson for Jamie Oliver told the Independent, "The food will be some distance away from what most people would casually refer to as 'fast food'. The team are looking at higher welfare and sustainable ingredients as well as healthier options." As for Oliver himself, all he's said on Twitter about the restaurant is that he has "Two big announcements coming your way this week." Stay tuned.
